Nestled in one of England’s most iconic countryside settings, the Club House at The Lakes by Yoo Retreats is designed as both a destination and an extension of the outdoors experience. Following a series of previous proposals that were never realized, we approached the project with a clear intent: to create an architecture that felt right, simple, direct, and deeply connected to its setting.

Clad in locally sourced materials and wrapped in a translucent skin, the building responds to light, weather, and the surrounding forest, shifting in appearance throughout the day. It doesn't compete with the lake, it mirrors it, absorbs it, and opens up to it.

The spatial strategy is layered. Above, a panoramic dining room opens fully to 360-degree views of the trees and water. Below, the ground floor modulates privacy, some spaces are quiet and enclosed, others expansive and open to the lake. The terrace floats above the shoreline before gently stepping down into the water, inviting visitors into an almost seamless relationship with nature.

Yes, the Club House core purpose is about fine dining, but more than that it's about slowing down, paying attention, and creating moments of shared experience, where architecture amplifies what’s already there, without ever overstatements.
